Speech-Language Pathology

Specialized services for children with communication difficulties

Speech-language pathologists sometimes called speech therapists, assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency. Our speech-language pathologists have many years of experience and hold a master's degree.  All have earned a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and are licensed by the State of South Carolina to practice Speech-Language Pathology.

The basic foundation of learning is the ability to communicate. Whether a child struggles with understanding and using language, creating speech sounds, play skills or social communication, the result can be frustrating for the child and lead to learning difficulties in school. Our pediatric speech-language pathologists treat:

  • Language comprehension and expression
  • Speech sound disorders
  • Social and play skills
  • Voice and resonance
  • Myofunctional Therapy (Tongue Thrust)

The Center's speech-language pathologists are specialized in assessing children and developing treatment plans tailored to meet the needs of both the child and the family. Often they collaborate with other professionals establishing a more comprehensive plan and coordinating services. The speech-language program at the Center supports infants to pre-teens.
