  • Dennis Burrows, Ph.D., Audiologist and Executive Director, had an article published in the July 2010 issue of Perspectives on Aural Rehabilitation and Its Instrumentation. The article addressed the use of Bluetooth in hearing aids.
  • Miriam Sims, Office Manager and Audiometric Technician, obtained her recertification as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist. Ms. Sims works in the Center's Industrial Audiology program serving over 30 different industries throughout the Pee Dee Region.
  • The Center has recently added a special piece of equipment used to assist in fitting hearing aids. The Audioscan Verifit Real-Ear Mapping System is a "real life" fitting and verification tool that allows the audiologist to more precisely and accurately program a hearing aid to fit the "real life" needs of a patient.

Executive Director and Audiologist | Myrtle Beach and Florence Office

Dr. Burrows joined Pee Dee Speech and Hearing in 2009 as the Executive Director. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma in Audiology with additional coursework in business and finance. His professional experience includes University Department Chair and Professor, Military Officer, Medical Practice Consultant, and CEO of a large Allied Health Agency. His professional credentials include selection as a "Fellow" of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and over 50 professional publications and presentations. He has served in many capacities with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association including Audiology Education Summit Committee Chair, Vice Chair of the Council for Academic Accreditation in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and most recently as Vice President for Standards and Ethics. Additionally he is a former president of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Vice Chair of the Michigan Audiology Licensure Board. His clinical skills and experience is extensive including working with newborns and adults, auditory electrophysiology, hearing conservation, and adult hearing aids. He has a special interest and skill working with those who have tinnitus.

Dr. Burrows is certified in Audiology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed to practice Audiology in South Carolina and Michigan.
